Hawaii Car Rental Terms and Conditions

Rental Requirements

On pickup the renter must present a valid Driver's license and charge card in their name. The renter must be 21 years of age or older and must register as the primary driver.

All forms of required identification MUST include a name and address and MUST match the name and address on the renter's driver's license.

Driver's License

The driver's license must be valid and may be subject to a DMV check. Hawaii police may require an International Driving Permit for translation purposes

Charge Card

A charge card is required on pickup. All major credit cards are accepted. Debit cards with the MasterCard or Visa logo are also accepted, however restrictions may apply depending on the rental company.

Driver Age

The minimum driver age is 21 years. Young Drivers aged 21 to 24 are subject to a young driver fee. Currently the going rate is $27 per day. We have negotiated a reduced rate of $10 per day with an international rental company and will book with them when informed of the renter's age.

Debit cards may not be accepted from young drivers and/or vehicle selection may be limited.

Rental Company Policies

Debit Card

Debit cards must have either the MasterCard or Visa logo. Additional restrictions may also apply depending on the rental company. Proof of round trip ticket may be required. Debit cards are not be accepted from young drivers by some companies or vehicle selection may be limited to economy to full size cars only.


Hawaii Car Rental Frequently Asked Questions

Base Rate

A confirmed base rate total is guaranteed and will not change unless you change your reservation. The posted discount rates are subject to all applicable location taxes which vary by location and rental company. The base rate does not include optional insurance protection or optional services.

Taxes Fees Surcharges

The base rate may be subject to some or all of the following: State excise tax, State Mtr Vhcle Schg, Airport taxes, Facility Charge, Concession Recovery Fee, Reg Fee And Weight Tax. Generally this amounts to around 17% on top of your base rate total. These are estimated as in most instances they are administered by parties other than the car rental company.

Insurance Plans

Insurance is not included. The rental companies offer a verity of protection plans on pickup. You are not required to purchase their plans. A basic plan ranges from $17 per day to $30 per day. Other sources of protection may also be available through your credit card provider, insurance provider or automobile association at much lower rates.

Additional Drivers

Additional driver fees vary by company from $10 to $12 per day. Additional drivers are added at the counter on pickup and are required to provide a valid Driver's license and charge card in their name. We have negotiated free driver packages with a few of the rental companies. We will always take your extra drivers into account when searching for your lowest rate

Child Seats

Government approved infant, toddler and booster child safety seats are available on pickup. The daily rate varies from $7 to $13 depending on the rental company. Note airlines do not charge for child safety seats.

One-way Rentals

Returning to another location on the island is permitted. A one-way return fee may apply.

Navigation Units

Portable navigation units are available on pickup. The daily rate varies from $10 to $12 per day.

Cancellation Policy

Cancel at any time without penalty. You may cancel by return email or on this website or the rental company website.

Rental Restrictions
